Where the Road Ends

Updated: May 26, 2021

While walking through the neighborhood where our mobile clinic was stationed that day, at the end of the main road in town, I noticed three young men sitting under the shade of a tree. They were passing a bottle, talking and laughing. I started a conversation with them and soon we began talking about the church in the neighborhood. They said that they don't go there because the people that do don't always act like Christians. I told them I didn't need to travel all the way here to know that was true. In fact, I explained, it's like that everywhere, for all of us sometimes. They also explained that they weren't ready to follow Christ, they wanted to be young and wild a little longer. I noticed a narrow path heading into the thick forest behind the young men. I was reminded of Matthew 7:13-14, '...narrow the road that leads to life...' what a cool visual, the narrow path and the wide road behind me that led back into the neighborhood. I spoke with them about this verse and challenged them to be bold and choose the narrow gate! It never ceases to amaze me how God makes it so easy to teach His word in moments like this. How is God showing us ways to connect with those in our lives on a daily basis? He makes it so easy. Sometimes you just have to walk all the way to where the road ends and where the path gets really narrow.
